How Our Lives Link Altogether! (H.O.L.L.A!)

How Lives Link Altogether! (H.O.L.L.A!) was founded and formally developed within the New York State prisons system in the early 2000s without the permission and/or support of the prison administrations. It was from a place of resurrection and hope (invisible energy and just doing the work) required to transform ourselves and communities inside and outside of the prison. Starting in 2002 - 2004 within the Rikers Island jail system - day rooms, cell blocks, dorms, and through family letter correspondence we began to build this practice. We continued this work in Otisville Correctional Facility inside the “Blue Room” from 2006 - 2010. When many of the co-founders were released from prison in 2009-2011 our NTA practice continued as we healed ourselves, and the communities in which we come from, with a particular focus on Afrikan youth. When released from prison (2009, 2010, 2011, and 2016) the co-founders of H.O.L.L.A! created and developed programs within local NYC communities without any philanthropic funding or office space. Currently, H.O.L.L.A! is a transformational grassroots youth program providing healing-centered youth organizing training, youth development services provider, political/cultural/spiritual education, and non-traditional approaches to healing, education, and community relationship building centered grassroots movements learned lessons; H.O.L.L.A! facilitates youth development as a radical healing process of Human and Healing Justice. H.O.L.L.A! engage in spiritual, political and cultural education and healing-centered youth organizing training, while connecting youth/participants to societal and communal resources to sustain and develop grassroots leadership and community transformation. H.O.L.L.A! is an established tax exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Harlem, New York serving the neighborhoods in NYC most impacted by the criminal punishment system. H.O.L.L.A!’s Non Traditional Approaches comprises generational knowledge, empirical findings, struggle and represents an ongoing resurrection process to fulfill Black Liberation, Healing Justice and Community Specific youth/community development, programming, aims and goals. Non Traditional Approach to Human nand Healing Justice Pedagogy is grounded in over 60 years of NYC/local legacy - including personal, social, relational, experiences, and knowledge cultivated in NYS prisons, NYC communities of color under siege by The WAR (Seven (7) Neighborhoods), and within grassroots social movements. H.O.L.L.A!’s community specific healing justice praxis fill gaps within institutional practice and culture (i.e., youth development; crime justice system; Black studies, etc), in service provision, and local grassroots community knowledge.
